Collection: Embroidery

Hand Embroidery is a way of bringing paintings into the real world, a way of immersing and surrounding oneself in vibrant colour and beauty.

Sometimes images can only be expressed in thread. Hand Embroidery is an extension of my painting, it allows me to capture detail, colour and gradients much like painting with the smallest brush.

I sometimes add three dimensional elements to fulfil my desire to make them leap out of the frame and become a part of our world. Some have beads, a background painted in inks, fabric leaves or a pair of recycled earings.

This is a real labor of love with each hand embroidery taking anywhere from fifty hours to over one hundred and fifty hours.

All works are one-off originals and all are hand embroidered.

I use a combination of rayon thread, machine embroidery thread and regular cotton thread to achieve the highest level of detail. Some are sewn on to the hoop, others glued on. They can all be hung on the wall off the hoop.
